Your Complete Guide to Waxing Prep and Aftercare

Getting the best possible result from your waxing appointment isn't just down to your therapist and the wax we use — a bit of preparation on your end goes a long way too. Here's everything our team recommends, from the night before your appointment to weeks afterwards.

Before Your Appointment
Let your hair grow first. Wax needs something to grip onto, so hair should be at least a quarter of an inch long — roughly 2 weeks of growth if you've been shaving, or longer if you're growing out from a previous wax. If it's too short, the wax won't remove it effectively and you may need to rebook.
Exfoliate the day before — not the day of. Gently exfoliating 24 hours beforehand helps lift dead skin cells and loose hair, which allows the wax to grip actual hair more effectively. Avoid exfoliating on the day itself, as it can leave skin more sensitive during treatment.
Avoid sun exposure and sunbeds in the days leading up to your appointment, as sun-exposed skin can be more reactive to waxing.
Skip heavy moisturiser on the day. A light moisturiser is fine, but anything oily or heavy right before your appointment can interfere with the wax's grip.
During Your Appointment
Just relax — this is our job. If you've had a difficult waxing experience elsewhere, let your therapist know beforehand. We use Waxperts wax specifically because it's gentler and more effective than standard alternatives, and our therapists are trained in the technique that makes the biggest difference to your comfort.
Immediately After
Avoid tight clothing for the first few hours where possible — loose, breathable fabrics reduce friction on freshly waxed skin.
Skip hot baths, saunas, steam rooms and sunbeds for 24–48 hours. Heat can irritate freshly opened pores and increase the risk of breakouts or ingrown hairs.
Avoid touching or scratching the area, even if it feels a little sensitive — this is normal and settles quickly.
In the Days and Weeks After
Start gentle exfoliation again after 48 hours, and continue 2–3 times a week between appointments. This is the single biggest thing you can do to prevent ingrown hairs.
Moisturise daily. Well-hydrated skin heals faster and keeps hair growing in the right direction rather than curling back under the skin.
Avoid shaving between waxing appointments. It might be tempting when you spot a stray hair, but shaving disrupts the regrowth cycle and undoes a lot of the benefit of waxing in the first place. Book in regularly instead — every 3–6 weeks — and let the wax do the work consistently.
When Should You Rebook?
Most clients find a rhythm of every 4–6 weeks keeps them consistently smooth without letting hair grow out too much between appointments. Your therapist can advise what works best for your hair growth cycle at your next visit.
Questions? Just Ask
Every client's skin and hair is a little different, and our therapists are always happy to tailor advice specifically for you at your appointment.
